Super Junior is Korean boy band that has 13 members. Besides singing, they are also do acting, mc-ing, dj-ing, staring CF (ad), and often appearing in various variety shows on all television stations in the country. They began their career in the world of Korean entertainment on November 5th 2005 with their debut album "Super Junior 05" and first single "Twins". Later, in the year 2007 their second album with title “Don’t don” (also their first single) was launched.
In March of 2009, their third album with title "Sorry Sorry" (also their first single) was launched. This album is kind of phenomenal because the company (SME) invited Nick Bass (the choreographer) to create special moves in single Sorry Sorry . Nick Bass is also the choreographer of the few super stars such as Justin Timberlake, Beyonce Knowles, etc.
Super junior initially consisted of only 12 members, but in 2006 the last member, Cho Kyu Hyun, and also become the youngest join this group.
Since the year 2006 some sub-group of super junior was formed:
SUPER JUNIOR K.R.Y This Sub group consist of 3 persons who are the lead vocals in Super Junior. They are: KYU HYUN, RYEOWOOK and YESUNG, and the subgroup name is taken from the initial letter of each member’s name. SUJU KRY was formed to sing ballad songs that can touch the listener's heart with their golden voice. The first single from SUJU KRY is The one I love.
SUPER JUNIOR-T This subgroup consists of 6 members namely: Eun Hyuk, Leeteuk, Hee Chul, Shindong, Kang In, and Seung Min. The letter T in SUJU T means Trot. Trot is Korean old songs and very popular among the eldest but not the youth. SUJU T has a mission to make Trot songs popular among the youth. So to get more attention from the youth, the songs were re-arranged to sound more fresh and modern. This group's first single is Rokkugo (means: backwards) which is very popular since performed again by SUJU T.
SUPER JUNIOR-H (HAPPY)This sub-group consists of Lee Teuk, Yesung, Kang In, Shindong, Eun Hyuk and Seung Min. This group’s mission is to bring the happy mood to all the listeners and the audience. The songs’ lyric are simple and catchy. In every performance, they always wear colorful and eye catchy outfit and the choreography they made is cute and funny. Their first single is Cooking Cooking.
Super Junior-M This subgroup consists of 7 members. They are Han Kyung (Leader), Siwon, Donghae, Ryeowook, Kyu Hyun, and two new members Zhou Mi and Henry Lau. The group is formed to attract China's market by singing Mandarin songs. At first, ELF (Ever Lasting Friends / SUJU fan base) rejected the 2 new members Zhou Mi and Henry. ELF shouted that SUPER JUNIOR only has 13 members and threatened to boycott the SUJU M album sales in Korea. But nowadays, ELF's heart began to soften. It’s proven in the second SUPER SHOW (SUJU’s Big Concert) last July, SUJU M was able to perform on a stage. It means the hard work of both leaders LeeTeuk (Super Junior) and HanKyung (SUJU M) does not end in vain. SUJU M debut single released in 2008 with the title ME.
To get to know them more closely, let us meet them one by one. Although the info about them below still incomplete at least in the big picture we can know them.
Park Jung Soo a.k.a Leeteuk (Leader) Born on July 1st 1983. His nickname is Angel Teuk, it is because of his loving and kind heart. He was elected as the leader in this group because he is the oldest and spent longest time as a trainee at SM Entertainment. Based on polling recently, conducted by a site in Korea, he was chosen as the best leader, defeated other girl and boy band leaders. I think he deserved the reward, because it’s not easy for someone for leading 13 men in one group. Besides singing with his 12 brothers, Leeteuk also remain on the radio show SUKIRA (Suju Kiss The Radio) on KBS radio as a dj with his dongsaeng (younger brother in the group) Eunhyuk since 2006. And together with Eunhyuk, they also joined Boom Academy (Gag Group, led by Boom-one of popular show hosts in Korea). Leeteuk replace Boom as the president of Boom Academy because Boom now is doing Military Service.
Hee Chul Born on July10th 1983 (9 days younger than Leeteuk). His nickname is Cinderella, it is because of his beautiful figure and performance that can beat a real woman. Heechul also has the unique habit. He can easily imitate the voice and facial expression of other people, also the dancing from another boy or girl band. This habit makes him as a funny and loveable person, although there are still people who hate it and say that he is a weird person. The nickname Cinderella is rarely heard right now, it might because his performance begins more grown up and manly. If Leeteuk reply to dj, this one spreads his wings in the world of acting as an actor in some serial dramas. Recently, he was finished shooting a new series (I Love You Thousand Times).
Han Geng a.k.a Han Kyung Han Kyung is often called as a miracle of 1.3 billion. He deserves this epithet, because among the billion China citizens, he was chosen by SM entertainment and eventually became one of the most popular Super Junior member. Yup a guy, who was born on February 9th 1984, is also a leader of the sub-group Super Junior M. Hankyung is a trick to pull China market which are very difficult to enter by artists from outside. Han Kyung is an asset. It cannot be denied, SJM, under his leadership, easily captured the hearts of China people. Han Kyung was also chosen to become one member of F4 China. But because of the busy schedule of Super Junior in promoting Sorry Sorry, then it was canceled. If Han Kyung was one of the cast of China Version of Boys Before Flowers, maybe the series can compete the Korean version in the terms of popularity.
Kim Jong Woon a.k.a YesungHe was born on August 24th 1984. His nicknamed is 'Vocal of Art' because of his golden voice that can make all hearts melt. He is one of the lead vocal in Super Junior. So far, we only saw Yesung performed with his twelve brothers, or at least three of them (KRY) together on stage. But recently, there is something different where he appeared on stage alone through acting on a musical drama (historical drama) titled NamHanSanSung He acted as a villain and evil person, named Jung Myungsu. He got the good reviews from drama critics. This play was held in Seongnam Art Center and become very successful with 1700 viewers. And 21-22 November 2009 was their last performance which is held in Kyungki do with more magnificent stage. Besides having a melodious voice, Yesung Oppa had considerable acting talent as well. Hwaiting Oppa!
Kim Young Woon a.k.a Kang In It can be said that Kang In is the busiest member compared with the other 12. Besides dj-ing and mc-ing he also often appeared in some series and variety shows. The last series of him is Zero Romance (which I happen to watch). No wonder that he was said as a member who earn the most. Kang was born on January 17th 1985. But unfortunately due to an incident that occurred several months ago at a night club in Seoul (a fight that he involved in), followed by hit-and-run incident (Kang was under alcohol affect) forced him to vacuum from all activities until next year, including super show II, which will lead to some countries. As an ELF, I really sad to hear this. We all know that Kang was not fully wronged. He was just at a wrong place and time. He involved in a fight because he just wanted defense himself from a drunken person. The media over exposed about this case and made him depressed and went drink. He was drunk enough to hit a taxi. Because he was panic then he ran away. Now all his fans (ELF) had forgiven him and want him back. But SME has its own rule to forgive him. They canceled all Kang’s activities till next year. Forget about his bad habit (Drinking), Kang is a very good person and brother to all the members. His absent in Super Show 2 in some countries became the big sadness for all members, especially Leeteuk. No wonder, Kang is the one who Eeteuk really trust to help him in leading the other 11 members. So comeback soon, Kang!!
Shin Dong Hee a.k.a Shin Dong Shindong is a chubby member of the group who was born on September 28th 1985. Because of his appearance, other members once though him as a gag person and not a singer hahaha…and it was happened before Super Junior’s debut. In the group, together with eunhyuk, Shindong is known as rapper and also become a dj in radio show, called Shim Shim Tapa. He is also a host in some variety shows together with Leeteuk and Eunhyuk. Recently, he was on the first rank on search engines because of his extreme losing weight (he lost 20 kg). But it was only for a moment, because now his weight reach 15 kg again .
Lee Seung Min I prefer call this boy ‘Baby’ because of his cute face. I think his face never change and always looks young, sweet and cute. If you look at his childhood pictures, you will find that he is not much change, even now he is 23 (24 Korean). Sungmin was born on January 1st 1986 and known as a multitalented member in Super Junior. He has passion in everything and he can learn it fast. He is good in singing, dancing, playing guitar, writing a song, doing martial art, magic game, even cooking. People can say him feminine by his appearance and attitude but in my opinion he is really a real man with gentle heart. I can say he is special, especially for girls. No wonder, Sungmin has many girl friends, it is because he can make every girl near him feel comfort. He was a dj in one radio show together with Sunny of SNSD. And the last project of him is acting in a musical drama called Akila. He acted as a handsome prince named Ro.
Lee Hyuk Jae a.k.a Eunhyuk Eunhyuk was born April 4th 1986. His nickname is dancing machine because of his great talent in dancing. Eunhyuk also rapper in the group. He looks cool when he dance and the dance itself become his charisma and charm on the stage that can enchanted many girls. Because of this, Eunhyuk is called Playboy. As a personal, Eunhyuk is a very neat guy. If you ever watch the show that aired few months ago by KBS TV station called Yeoyeomanman, you can see how clean and neat his room was. I was fascinated to see that. Although the brothers said he rarely wash his face but at least he's not dirty, is he? Together with Eeteuk, Eunhyuk is a longest trainee in SME. They are trained in SM since 1999. Eunhyuk went to audition along with Xiah Junsu of DBSK. But unlucky him, Only Xiah was chosen. But Eunhyuk never gave up and tried for second time. And now we know him as Eunhyuk Super Junior. Besides singing with his twelve brothers, he is also a dj in SuKiRa (Super Junior kiss the radio) along with his Hyungnim Leeteuk since 2006.
Choi Si Won He is the eldest son of the owner of Hyundai Department Store, one of the largest shopping center in Korea. But it is not make him give in on his dream as a singer. He started from zero as one of trainee in SME. Now he is known as Super Junior handsome Prince. But his brothers in the group gave him a special nickname that is 'gesture man'. It is because he always makes gesture when he talks (In order to talk politely). Coming from rich family, you must have polite attitude, so that unwritten rule is become natural trait in Siwon. As long as I live, I never believe that a prince material described on the soap opera really exist. But when I know Siwon, my heart was tremble. He is tall, handsome, kind heart, has good voice, good in acting, not smoking, not drinking, love God so much, and coming from rich family. What a girl need more? He is a complete package as a future husband that every girls in the world dreaming on. Even Eunhyuk once said that he wants Siwon married to his older sister and become his brother in law hahaha… Siwon was born on 10 April 1986. And talking about his career, he is not only do singing but also acting. He played in some drama series such as 18 VS 29 (2005) and Spring Waltz (2006); also a movie with Andy Lau titled Battle of Wits (2006).
Lee Dong Hae Donghae was born on October 15th 1986. Same with Eunhyuk, He has great talent in dancing. It makes him and Eunhyuk very close, besides they are same age. Donghae’s saddest part of live is when he lost his father forever in 2006. He always consider his father as his best friend, so that when his father passed away he felt like he lost his best friend forever. And before his father died, he once told Leeteuk to take care of Donghae. And if Donghae talked about his father in some talk show where Super Junior becomes the guest star, there will be tears coming from all Super Junior members, especially Leeteuk. Compared with the other Super junior members, Donghae has not many activities outside the group. He used to be a star in CF and other singer (from SME) MV. He is also a member of Super junior M. Now Suju M is promoting their new mini album called Super Girl.
Kim Ryeo-wook Ryeowook was born June 21, 1987. He is one of the three lead vocalists of the super boy band Super Junior, and is also a member Super Junior KRY and Super Junior M, two subgroups that are branched out from the main group. Along with four other members of Super Junior M, he is one of the first Korean artists to appear on Chinese postage stamps.
Ryeowook made his acting debut in the film, Attack on the Pin-Up Boys, a high-school comedy/mystery film, in which he plays the eccentric vice president of the student council. Ryeowook's acting gained positive feedback from critics and he was nominated Best Supporting Actor and Best Comedic Performance at the Korean Movie Awards. Besides singing and acting, Ryeowook also a song writer. Along with Sungmin, he wrote Love U More, a single for Super Junior third album. His brothers in Super Junior also give him nick names, a king's wife and ahjumma (aunt) because of his big attention to other members and also his habit in cooking for other members.
Kim Ki-bumKi Bum was born August 21, 1987, He made his debut in the Korean drama series, April Kiss in 2004. Although debuted as an actor, he achieved higher results as a singer after his music debut with Super Junior in 2005. Because of his high passion in acting, Ki Bum never showed up in every promos of Super Junior third album “Sorry Sorry”. Many people speculated that he left Super Junior. But ELF stay believe that Ki Bum will comeback to SuJu soon, especially for their super concert Super Show 2 next year.
Along this year Ki Bum focused to his movie, Jumunjin (Ghost), which has been release on 21 January next year. We all hope that this movie will be a hit so his absence from Super Junior really worth it.
Cho Kyu-hyun Kyuhyun was born February 3, 1988, He is the last member to join the Super Junior, and is considered as one of the three lead vocalists of the group. He is also one of the first four Korean artists to appear on Chinese postage stamps. He made his first appearance as a part of Super Junior in a a news broadcast on May 23, 2006 when the group was introducing their new single, ''U'. Kyuhyun made his debut performance on May 26, 2006 at SBS's I-Concert performing the new single "U", where it was also the group's first return performance as a permanent group. Towards the end of 2006, Kyuhyun, along with Yesung and Ryewook, was placed in Super Junior's first subgroup, SuJu KRY. In the early morning of April 19, 2007, just one month before Kyuhyun's first anniversary in Super Junior, Kyuhyun with Super Junior members Teuk, Shindong and Eunhyuk and two managers were all hospitalized due to a car accident when returning from the Super Junior Kiss the Radio show that night. The driver lost control of the vehicle as the van flipped over on its right side. But thanks God, after 5 months treatmen Kyu made his comeback on September 21, 2007, performing the new promo-single, "Don't Don” with his 12 brothers
